LAP LEGALITY RULES:
The general rule is that you must always touch the track with at least two tires, where "the track" is defined as any surface between the white lines, the white lines themselves and "normal" kerbs (which are usually painted red/white or blue/white).
Extra run-off (usually painted green) outside the kerbs is however not considered as part of the track.
You can also use patches of unpainted asphalt outside the white lines on a corner entry / exit (for example the first turn at Valencia or at the exit of the Ascari chicane at Monza), as long as it doesn't mean your car is completely cut over a kerb, painted asphalt, astroturf, a grass verge, etc.
